GREEN BABY DIAPERS

Monday, September 29, 2008

To be a green "crunchy" mom, mothering the earth as well as our babies, we all need to make choices. To cloth or to disposable diaper? That is the question, subject to debates ranging from finances to convenience.

Nevertheless, we all have choices. And today, I'm featuring a truly adorable option! Cloth diapers that have absorbent pad inserts! These adjustable, washable and earth-friendly diapers have fleece that let the moisture through to the absorbent pads. No, it's not going to leak through because the diapers are leak proof. I haven't tried it yet, but I also hear that it's still cool enough for baby to wear in our tropical weather. You just take out the wet insert and place another one in, then baby's good to go again! Unless when they poop, you really have to change the entire thing. However, the poop washes off the fleece easily so you can have it washed and ready for duty in a couple of hours' time.

It does save on a huge bundle of disposable diaper funds. Not to mention, cutting down on what ends up as poopy landfill.

There are a lot of these cute diapers out there and I was happy to find a supplier of the better brands here in the Philippines. Ilaria Keogh, a crunchy mom, imports them from the US and has her own shop online called Terra Babies Boutique. Just a tip though, open her site using IE as Firefox gets a bit wonky.

Personally, I'm eyeing those batik prints from Bumwear, a Singaporean company started by, yep! A Mom! As soon as I can, I'll spring for a couple. (My, my . . . don't our priorities change? Good-bye shoe fetish fund!) Thank god it's available here and I don't need a credit card to purchase it online and wait forever for the delivery!

Ilaria is just over at Ayala, Alabang, but she can also meet up with you to show you her luscious earth-baby goodies! She's also at the monthly AWCP bazaar at the World Trade Center in Pasay. She has a lot of other products as well, and I will go through them to feature here. But don't wait! Go check her out now for stuff that would make you, your baby, your budget and Momma Earth verrrry happy!
